A quick guide to qualifying for residential solar power

Solar power is undoubtably the most effective means of lowering your power bill and greatly contributes to minimising our negative impact on the environment. The benefits of solar are multidimensional.

Solar power is harnessed through the installation of solar panels. These panels convert sunlight into direct current electricity which is then converted into the alternating current that powers homes and businesses. This simple process of conversion is responsible for minimising electricity bills by 50-80%.

Australia, the 'sunburnt country' is the perfect location for solar as it considered one of the sunniest places in the world. Moreover, given the increasingly common surges in electricity prices, the average quarterly power bill in Australia sits around $400/quarter.

So, who qualifies for these sun-charged savers? Unlike most good things, you do not need to jump through hoops to qualify for solar installation. In fact, there are only three main criteria involved in the qualification process.

If you answer yes to all three of the conditions below you qualify for solar:

1.     Must be a homeowner

2.     At least one homeowner must be under 75

3.     At least one homeowner must be employed or receive government benefits

In order to yield the full benefit of solar energy, it is recommended that solar panels are installed for households and businesses that receive more than 4 hours of sunshine a day and have a power bill above $300/quarter. These ‘sub-criteria’ are designed to protect the consumer rather than to prevent people from benefiting from solar.

With so few conditions, why not join the ever-growing number of Australians slashing their power bills and contributing to the increasing celebration of clean energy. Will you step up a be the next solar saver?
