What it is - Who it applies to - When it starts
Australia has introduced two sustainability standards: AASB S2 (climate-related disclosures) and AASB S1 (broader sustainability disclosures).
AASB S2 is the mandatory one.
From 1 January 2025 – Group 1: the biggest end of town – large listed/regulated entities, very high revenue or asset groups, major financial institutions and organisations already reporting under NGER.
From 1 July 2026 – Group 2: substantial but not top-tier businesses – many large private/unlisted companies, bigger manufacturers, logistics, construction and engineering groups that meet the mid-level size tests.
From 1 July 2027 – Group 3: smaller in-scope entities – typically organisations with 100+ staff or moderate revenue/assets that are still captured (this will include a lot of medium manufacturers, depots, agri/food processors and education bodies).
AASB S1 is optional at first.
It lets organisations go beyond climate and report on other material topics (people, supply chain, nature, cyber) using the same ISSB-aligned structure. Most businesses will start with S2 to meet the legal requirement, then add S1 elements as their data and governance mature.
What about SMEs that aren’t technically in scope yet?
Even if you don’t fall into Groups 1–3, doing an S2-style baseline is still smart: it finds immediate energy/waste savings, shows customers and banks you’re organised, and gives you real numbers to offset or decarbonise against later. For smaller manufacturers, workshops, logistics depots and schools, a 3–4 week “supplier-ready” assessment is often the fastest way to cut costs now and be ready when bigger customers start asking for climate data.
Why work with us
Assurance-ready evidence packs aligned to AASB S2 (ISSB), expandable to AASB S1.

SME-friendly approach: start with bills, fuel cards, and simple supplier surveys; add depth as you grow.
Service options

AASB S1 – Broader Sustainability Reporting – Extend beyond climate (people, nature, supply chain, cyber).
Supplier-Ready Climate Pack (Lite) – 3–4 weeks to a buyer-ready baseline, a two-page disclosure, and a dashboard.
S2-Ready Essentials (SME) – 8-week alignment to AASB S2 with focused Scope 3, scenario snapshot, and controls.
Operations Decarbonisation Sprint – Top-10 savings actions with IRR/payback/disruption; solar/battery pre-feasibility.
Keep-It-Running Retainer – Monthly data close, supplier follow-ups, tender responses, and quarterly board packs.
FAQs
Do I need AASB S1 or just S2?
Most organisations start with AASB S2 (climate). As data and governance mature, extend to priority non-climate topics under AASB S1.
