Federal Incentives - October 2025

Cheaper Home Batteries Program (Federal)
From 1 July 2025 the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides a discount of around 30% off the upfront cost of eligible small-scale battery systems (applies to residential, small business and community organisations for batteries roughly in the 5–100 kWh usable range). The discount is delivered through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) and is generally applied by the installer/retailer at point of sale. See official guidance for eligible products, one-per-property limits and how the discount is applied. dcceew.gov.au+1

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs / “solar rebate”)
The STC mechanism (part of the SRES) continues to provide an upfront discount on new rooftop PV systems. Installers typically handle STC creation and pass the value on as a discount in quotes — this remains the primary federal subsidy for PV system installations. The STC value varies by system size, location (zone) and market pricing. energy.gov.au

State By State Incentives - Oct 2025

Disclaimer: The rebates and incentives are indicative at the time of publishing however may change. Links are provided to do your own research also and be kept up to date with any changes.

New South Wales (NSW)

NSW battery / VPP incentives (October 2025)
NSW ended its older upfront battery installation discount in favour of targeted incentives tied to Virtual Power Plant (VPP) participation. The current NSW incentive is generally an upfront or staged payment tied to joining an approved VPP, with incentives varying by battery size (examples reported up to around $1,500 for smaller household batteries under some VPP offers). The NSW battery discount program that ran prior to the Commonwealth program has been mostly replaced by these VPP-linked incentives; installers can confirm the current rates and eligibility. energy.nsw.gov.au+1

  • NSW now focuses incentives on Virtual Power Plant (VPP) connection: eligible batteries connected to approved VPPs can receive NSW incentives (amount varies by battery size and VPP provider).

  • STCs still apply to new PV installs and installers normally pass the STC discount through in quotes. energy.nsw.gov.au+1

Victoria (VIC)

Solar Homes / PV rebate + interest-free loan (October 2025)
Victoria’s Solar Homes program continues to offer a PV rebate (up to $1,400) for eligible households, plus the option of an interest-free loan to match the rebate amount for households that qualify. The program also includes rebates for eligible hot water heat pumps and support for apartments/strata in selected streams. Check the Solar Victoria page for up-to-date eligibility, staged releases and available quotas. solar.vic.gov.au+1

  • Up to $1,400 PV rebate for eligible Victorian homes (plus an optional interest-free loan to match).

  • Additional rebates for heat-pump hot water and programs supporting apartments and rentals. solar.vic.gov.au

Queensland (QLD)

Federal battery rebate + state roadmap measures (October 2025)
Queenslanders are eligible for federal support (STCs for PV and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program ≈ 30% off batteries). In October 2025 the Queensland Government released an energy roadmap that includes new measures (including a solar panel rebate stream aimed at landlords and other targeted supports) — details and rollout timing vary and installers should be consulted for landlord-targeted streams. Published guides show the federal battery discount being stacked with some state schemes and local offers where they remain open. dcceew.gov.au+2ABC+2

  • Federal STCs apply to PV; Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies for eligible batteries (approx. 30% discount).

  • Queensland has recently announced landlord-targeted solar measures — check official QLD pages for rollout timing and eligibility. dcceew.gov.au+1

South Australia (SA)

Powering Business Grants (SA) — commercial focus (October 2025)
South Australia’s Powering Business Grants provide grants for eligible small and medium businesses and not-for-profits to buy equipment and solutions including solar and batteries. In 2025 the program offered grants between $2,500 and $75,000 for eligible purchases between $5,000 and $150,000 (ex-GST) — check current program guidelines and application windows (some rounds have set closing dates). For households, federal STC and the federal battery rebate apply. Small and Family Business+1

  • SA businesses can apply for Powering Business Grants (grant size depends on project cost — see guidelines).

  • Households: federal STCs and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program apply. Small and Family Business+1

Western Australia (WA)

WA Residential Battery Scheme (October 2025)
WA launched a Residential Battery Scheme offering one-off rebates and no-interest loans to help households buy residential batteries; this program was active in 2025 with application windows and program caps — check WA Government pages for current application status and rebate amounts (page updated July 2025). Federal STCs and the federal battery discount also apply in WA. Western Australian Government+1

  • WA: state battery rebates and interest-free loan streams exist (check WA Government pages for the current amount and application process).

  • Federal STCs + Cheaper Home Batteries Program apply nationally on top of any WA offers. Western Australian Government+1

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Home Energy Support (ACT) — rooftop solar & other home electrification (October 2025)
ACT’s Home Energy Support provides rebates (for example, 50% of supply and installation up to $2,500 for eligible rooftop solar, plus matching rebates for heat pumps and efficiency measures) and can be combined with a zero-interest loan of up to $10,000 in some cases. Check ACT pages for up-to-date eligibility and how the rebates interact with federal programs. climatechoices.act.gov.au

  • ACT rebate examples: 50% of cost up to $2,500 for rooftop solar (plus loan options).

  • Federal STCs & battery program still apply. climatechoices.act.gov.au

Tasmania (TAS)

Federal incentives remain; state loan program closed (October 2025)
Tasmanians continue to access federal STCs for PV and the national Cheaper Home Batteries Program for batteries. Tasmania’s Energy Saver Loan Scheme (interest-free loans up to $10,000 for energy upgrades including solar and batteries) closed early on 1 September 2025 after funds were exhausted — check state pages for any replacement programs or council offers. recfit.tas.gov.au+1

  • Federal STCs apply to new PV; Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies to eligible batteries.

  • The Tasmanian Energy Saver Loan Scheme closed Sept 2025 — no new applications accepted. ABC+1

Northern Territory (NT)

Home & Business Battery Scheme (NT) & federal stack (October 2025)
The Northern Territory ran a Home and Business Battery Scheme and increased the maximum bonus in late 2024 (some information showed boosts up to $12,000 in earlier stages). By mid-2025 the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program — plus STCs for PV — applied across the Territory. Some NT local programs ran with per-kWh grant calculations; check the NT government page for the exact current cap and application rules. dme.nt.gov.au+1

  • NT: historically had a Home & Business Battery Scheme with substantial per-kWh grants; check NT Gov site for the current cap and eligibility.

  • Federal STCs and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program apply as well. dme.nt.gov.au+1
